Cerec Technology
Cerec is a method of CAD/CAM dentistry for creating dental restorations. The Cerec consists of a computer and milling unit. The computer has a laser camera that captures images of the patient's tooth after it is prepped. The images create digital impressions needed to make the crown. The dentist then designs the crown on the computer using the digital models. Once the unique crown is designed, the computer is linked to the milling unit. The milling unit, like a CNC machine, uses 2 burs to mill out the crown out of a solid block of ceramic. The crown is then fitted in the patient's mouth. The dentist can make minor adjustments with his handpieces until the fit is perfect. The crown is then polished and cemented in.
